From 7 to August 16 Maspalomas celebrates its 8th Craft Fair

Fedac 67 artisans from 15 municipalities of Gran Canaria participate in this professional shows, where last year a volume of sales was achieved close to 120,000 euros

The acting mayor of San Bartolomé, Alamo Elena Vega, and the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Minerva Santana Alonso, inaugurated on Friday the 8th Craft Fair Maspalomas lighthouse, which is held every evening from 17:00 to 23:00 hours, until Sunday 16 August.

Organized by the Foundation of Ethnography and Development of Crafts Canaria (Fedac), the Fair has this year with the participation of 67 craftsmen, five of them for the first time, corresponding to 25 offices and 15 municipalities of the island.

Participants include his No. 10 potters, leather workers 13 5 decorators fabrics 5 jewelers, 3 miniaturists, 3 turners and two carpenters, although in professional shows there are smiths smiths, tobacco, embroiderers, modelers, toy makers, dressmakers, chandlers, knife, recycling artists and seamstresses crochet.

Most of the artisans come from Las Palmas (23), San Bartolomé (12) and Telde (8), while the remaining are from Teror (4), the Village of St. Nicholas (3), Ingenio (3) , Gáldar (3), Arucas (3), Santa Lucía de Tirajana (2) Valsequillo (2), St. Bridget (1), Moya (1) Agaete (1), Agüimes (1) and Matthew (1) .

The organization of the fair has had this year with 65 stands and a budget of 100,000 euros, 20,000 less than in the last edition of the cost Charges taken parallel event entertainment activities. This work was carried out this year by musical performances by folk groups and Salitre the Faycan Bucio, and through a demonstrative workshop on the game Garrote Canario.

The acting mayor, Elena Alamo, said the holding of the Craft Fair at the foot of Faro de Maspalomas “is an economic boost for the artisans who work all year for and preservation of traditions, and also a added value for the tourism brand Maspalomas Costa Canaria.

The Minister Minerva Alonso Santana said the Cabildo and Fedac “will continue investing in marketing actions in tourist enclaves for the revaluation of the grancanaria craft”.

Another annual fair

Crafts Fair Maspalomas Lighthouse has established -together with the traditional San Telmo and Spring also held in summer Maspalomas- as a reference for the exhibition and sale of craft products of the Island. In its edition 2014 artisans participating in this event achieved a sales volume of nearly 120,000 euros.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Handicrafts studies Cabildo mount a fourth fair on the island annually.
