DAY OF THE CANARY ISLANDS
May 30 is recognized as the Day of the Canary Islands . This is a holiday in all the islands of the Canaries. This day commemorates the anniversary of the first session of the Parliament of the Canary Islands , held on May 30, 1983 , about ten months after publication of the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands Official elBoletín State . This first parliament was chaired by Pedro Guerra Cabrera . The Statute of the Canary Islands was published on August 10, 1982 , and , like other statutes of the other autonomous communities of Spain , recognized increasing self-management of the Canary Islands in Spain .
As background , the attempt to provide an autonomous Canary Islands Government dates back to the Second Republic , but was postponed by the Civil War and the Franco dictatorship ; past 46 years , Canary Islands could have a government of the Canary Islands August 10, 1982 after the return of democracy in Spain .
